Volvo Penta wins an ‘Oscar of the boat industry’ for its easy boating concept

Volvo Penta takes a major prize at an awards ceremony at the Düsseldorf boat show, dubbed the ‘Oscars of the boat industry’. The company won an innovation award for its easy boating concept. 

The award recognizes Volvo Penta’s dedication to bring innovation to the marine leisure market, which makes boating easier, smarter, and more accessible. This encompasses the company’s wide range of solutions that continue to revolutionize the marine industry, such as Volvo Penta IPS (Inboard Performance System), joystick technology, dynamic positioning, Glass Cockpit system, as well as the latest innovations – joystick for inboard shaft and battery management system.

The jury included a panel of European boating journalists, representing a combined total of more than one million monthly readers.

“As pioneers in drive technology, Volvo Penta products, such as the IPS, the joystick control, the Easy Docking function or the new battery management system, have made life on board more pleasant, more convenient and safer for many people,” said BOOTE magazine editor-in-chief Torsten Moench, explaining the jury’s decision.

“We’re very happy to receive this fantastic award at such an important show in the marine leisure industry,” says Stefan Carlsson, Volvo Penta’s head of the marine diesel segment.

“We have worked hard to design and create ingenious products that offer ‘easy boating’ options for customers. Our easy boating philosophy pushes us to continue to innovate and deliver technology that makes it easier for boaters of all skill levels to enjoy their time on the water. This recognition symbolizes the essence of what we aim to achieve.”

High class of competition
The award was presented at the Flagship Night event on Saturday, January 21 at the Düsseldorf boat show and was hosted by German publishing company Delius Klasing, which produces books and magazines on boating. Thanks to the high class of entrants, the prestigious awards have been dubbed the ‘Oscars of the boating industry’.

Other awards at the gala ceremony included the European Powerboat of the Year. All nominated powerboats, with inboard propulsion – shaft, IPS, and sterndrive, for the 2017 European Powerboat award featured Volvo Penta engines; 90 per cent of the winning boats were equipped with Volvo Penta power – yet another example of the company’s contribution to the boating industry.

The award initiated a successful week at the Düsseldorf boat show for Volvo Penta as the company is exhibiting its new D2-60 engine, Battery Management System, Joystick for Inboard, along with other products, including a range of diesel and gasoline engines, Easy Drain, Glass Cockpit System, and Saildrive 130 S.

“This trade show is an important event in the boating calendar,” adds Carlsson. “And we look forward to consolidating relationships with customers and building new opportunities for the future.”
